Hi Mr. Wilson

This graph shows that the Southern has more land than the Northern. The reason why is because the southern needed land for farming to feed their people. Also colonies from the South were probably more powerful than the Northern colonies. This is why the Southern colonies had more land.

I think that the south had more land then the north because they needed more space for their plantations and farms. The southern colonies wanted more space so that they could plant more crops. The plantations were pretty big and usually had many workers. The north, however, didn’t have such big farms. They typically had more big towns or cities.
ReplyDelete-Taylor
In this graph there is probably more area in the southern states because there are more farms. Because there are more farms they can't be divided in the middle of a plantation. There are also more businesses and cities in the north. Also, in the north there are more natural borders like rivers to draw a line.

The southern states they needed more land for many reasons. They needed more room for planting and farming for their crops. They had a lot more than the northern states because the northern didn’t farm that much. Southern states had a lot of farmers and slaves to work in the fields for the crops. In the northern states they had a lot of business people and factories that they worked in and didn’t have time to farm and plant crops.

I think the Southern colonies are bigger than the northern ones because of the environment. The southern Colonies can plant and harvest crops while the northern ones ,as mentioned in social studies can’t do that as well. Also as you know planting crops not only supports more people but take up more room. This is what causes the size different.

ReplyDeleteI think that the southern colonies have more area than the northern colonies because they would do a lot of farming in the southern colonies. Because of the farming they need more land to have big farms and produce more crops. Also the south had a larger area because they were found later and the colonists wanted to take up as much land as they could. Over all the southern states could have a larger area for many differnt reasons.
ReplyDelete~Sam
I believe that the southern colonies had more area than the northern colonies because down in the south is where many of the settlements started. This would give them more time for exploring and expanding all of the land that each colony had. Also, I believe that the southern colonies had more land because of the temperature and land forms. In the south there is great fishing off the coast and it is warm enough for growing many crops and farming. In the north it is colder, decent fishing, and not as many crops will grow up there. Finally, the North was still yet to be fully discovered and much of the South was discovered. This is why the southern colonies had more area of land then the northern colonies.

One difference between the area of the northern and southern states is that the southern states generally had more land than the northern states. The states with the most area were North and South Carolina, which are both southern states. But, Massachusetts also had a lot of land, even though it is a northern state. I think the southern colonies had so much more land than the northern colonies because they’re main income was from growing and selling crops so they needed big plantations in which to farm in. The northern states were mostly cities so they did not need a lot of land.

This graph shows how the Southern colonies had more land than the Northern colonies. I think they had more land because they needed the land for farming. The north didn’t farm as much because they had cities and factories. I also think this because Virginia was a southern state and that was a major state back then. The southern colonies were found first so they had more land. This is why the southern colonies had more area than the northern colonies.

This graph shows that the Southern has more land than the Northern. The reason why is because the southern needed land for farming to feed their people. Also colonies from the South were probably more powerful than the Northern colonies. The South had more than 3/4 of the land. This is why the Southern colonies had more land.
ReplyDelete~ Tosh
There are many possibilities for why the southern states had more area. One reason is because everyone wanted to settle in the north because it was great for trade and fishing unlike the south. Also, since less people wanted to settle here which caused the land that people conquered to be larger because they didn't have to fight each other for that land. As you can see there are many reasons for why the southern states are larger.

I think there was one main reason why the colonies in the south were much bigger. This reason is that the south was bigger. There was more room for the colonies to take up. New England’s colonies were small because they didn’t have a lot of space to take up. This is because they were trapped by water and could only go so far. However in the south they could go all the way across the US for their colony to expand. That is why the south is bigger. Connor
ReplyDeleteI believe that the southern colonies had more land for quite a few reasons. One of the big reasons is religious differences. Many states in the North East started out big but ended up divided because people couldn’t decide on religious and governmental laws. These people left and started their own small colonies. Another reason is that lots of people landed in New England around the same time, and so ended up only getting a little piece of the pie. Later, settlers in the south had less competition and could claim more land at a time. These two reasons explain why southern colonies are larger.

I think that the southern colonies have more area then the northern colonies because the southern states needed space to expand and explore. They had the entire West and West coast to discover. Another reason why the southern states might have had more land is because they needed to farm in the climate. One last reason why the north had less land then the south is because of the different climates. The south needed land because climate made the south make their colonies bigger. Also the south had more people to feed like slaves and such, so they had to make their colonies bigger and farm for it. This is why I think that the south had more land then the north.
ReplyDelete-Lobster
In the graph you can tell that the southern colonies have a lot more area then the northern colonies. The first reason why I think this is because in the south they had slaves and most people were farmers. They needed more room for farm lands and plantations. Not many northern people farmed so they didn’t need a lot of land. Most people in the north worked as business people. Second, the southern colonies had more power than the north. That is why the southern colonies were bigger than the north.
ReplyDelete-haley
The southern colonies generally had more land than the northern colonies. I think that it is because originally the entire country was Virginia, but later more colonies were established and those colonies spread all along the East coast. In the North, colonies were more plentiful and therefore they each had less space. The Southern colonies’ sizes were utilized by farmers and plantation owners. They could use more land for farms so they could supply the Northern colonies that generally had less farms. However, Massachusetts was a large state even though it was in the North. Maine was not established as a colony so it was part of the Massachusetts colony.

In this graph it shows the southern states with more area then the northern states, they had more area for many reasons. The first reason the southern states have more area because they needed more room for plantations and farming. The slaves farmed on plantations which are houses on big pieces of land. Also a lot of people had more land and in the north they didn’t have as much land because the people weren’t farmers they were business people. Next, the southern states had more power because they were bigger and had more people. The north had cities and towns, where the south had more farms. So that is why the southern states had more area.
ReplyDelete~Dana
There are many solutions for why the southern states are bigger than the northern states. One is because they had a wider area to work with then the north had. This allowed the south to keep progressing with more area. The north didn’t have enough area to work with. Another reason why is because the northern states were colder and colonist were used to warmer climates. So they didn’t know how to live in colder climates. Lastly, is because the northern states when they got there could have had more work to do on them then the southern states so it was easier for the southern states to go.
ReplyDelete-Alex-
A lot of the southern colonies are larger in mass than the northern colonies. I think this is because in the south, more people owned plantations. They needed more space to grow their crops. In the north, however, less people were farmers so they didn’t need as much space.
ReplyDeleteKristen
I believe the southern colonies had more area than the northern colonies because the southern colonies were discovered first. Virginia and North Carolina had the largest areas and they were the first two colonies discovered. When more people started to come to America they wanted land, too. Many people who moved north lived in Massachusetts, but many times people were kicked out of the colony for their religious views. This led to those people starting their own small colonies like Rhode Island or Connecticut. Those colonies grew, but people kept moving around and starting other small colonies.

The graph above shows the similarities and differences between the northern and southern states. To begin, the northern and southern states are similar because Massachusetts has one of the larger areas on the map. This is like most southern states because southern states have the largest areas on the graph. Another similarity between the northern and southern states is that South Carolina’s area is almost equal to Pennsylvania. The areas of northern and southern states are different because southern states tend to have the greater areas. This is most likely because more people liked the southern living conditions more than the northern conditions. This is also because more people liked to invest in living in the south. In conclusion, there are many similarities and differences between the areas of the original thirteen colonies.

The Northern colonies (with the exception of Massachusetts) have far less area then the Southern colonies. This is because the center of the thirteen colonies was in Boston Massachusetts. This drew the majority of people into the northern colonies. When the colonies were divided the cramp people were divided into many different colonies. However as colonists continued to venture south there was much open land so with little people. These colonies were not need to be split up as much for not much population was in each area. Though on the population graph it clearly shows the southern colonies having a greater population then the Northern colonies this is only because the northern states are so divided. If they were grouped together creating three or four large colonies then their population would surpass that of the southern colonies
ReplyDeleteBrian
There are many reasons why the southern states are larger than the northern states. One reason is the northern states were harder to live in. For example the winters were very cold and rough, and the land was hard to farm. In the southern states the land was fertile and it was very hot. Another reason is Explorer’s first explorations were in southern area. This meant that colonist probably worked their way up. Finally the south had more area to work then the north. This is why the southern states were so much larger than the northern states.
ReplyDeleteDavid
Most of the southern colonies had more area than the northern colonies. I think this is because they farmed a lot in the south, so they needed more space to grow their crops and build their farms. In the north, there were fewer farmers, so they didn’t need all the extra land for plantations.
ReplyDeleteAdriana
The southern colonies had more area than the northern colonies because the southern colonies maybe were found first so the explorers made them as big as possible so that they could have lots of people come to live there. They didn’t want other countries to own more land than they did. Also the countries that founded the southern colonies might have been more powerful than the ones that founded the northern colonies. Another reason is farming. The southern colonies were into farming so they needed more land for their farms because the farms were very big.
ReplyDelete-Austin
I think there was more area in the southern colonies because it was much easier to farm there and also people first landed there. Also in the north people got sick faster and died a lot more so there were less people to make larger states. Also there were more Indian tribes in the north that would make people make smaller colonies. Also in the south people needed more space for plantations and other farms. Another reasons it could be like that is because there is more rivers and lakes in the north to form natural boundaries.

In the Southern Colonies is very hot. Also the Southern Colonies are growing plants because it is very hot. In the Northern Colonies it is very cold. The Northern Colonies don’t even have igloos instead of houses. The Northern Colonies have more population than Southern Colonies. The Northern Colonies can't grow as many crops becaus it is colder than the Southern Colonies.

ReplyDeleteThe Southern colonies most likely had more land because they were founded after the Northern colonies were founded (except Virginia). They were bigger because the English realized that there was more land to the south of Virginia. The Northern colonies in New England were also smaller because New England is surrounded by a lot of water (Atlantic Ocean, Long Island Sound, the Great Lakes) and the south had more land to take.
